Pastor David M. Nelson

Reverend David M. Nelson is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a first generational Pastor and preacher, and comes from a great Christian heritage.

Reverend Nelson is a graduate of Saint Joseph's University as a recipient of The Scholar Academic Scholarship, where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology. Determined to advance his education, Reverend Nelson obtained a Master's of Education Degree from Lincoln University. Currently, he is attending Ashland Theological Seminary to earn a Master's of Divinity in Practical Theology.

In 1996, Reverend Nelson accepted his "Call into the Ministry" at Morris Chapel Baptist Church and in 2000, he was ordained as a Preacher of the Gospel at Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Reverend Nelson served faithfully as the Assistant Pastor and Youth Pastor at Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Later in his ministry, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Reverend Nelson united with the Union Baptist Temple Church in Bridgeton, NJ and served as Associate Minister.

Reverend Nelson currently serves as Senior Pastor of New Hope Baptist located in Akron, Ohio, and has been serving at the Pastor since 2007. Since his tenure numerous people have joined the fellowship each year, of whom 50% are new believers. In addition, he has strengthened established ministries and created new ministries which include Youth Ministry, Teen Church & Children's Church, Couples Ministry, Singles Ministry, Stewardship Ministry & Soup Kitchen Ministry. The vision our Serving Christ, Serving the Congregation, and Serving the Community continues to influence the church and the Akron area.

As of 2012, Pastor Nelson and the congregation have launched a Mortgage Payoff Liquidation Plan for the next five years ending in 2017. Overall, as Senior Pastor, souls have been saved, people have been changed and transformed, church has grown, and the community has been impacted for their good and for the glory of God. He is active in the community, and through the Akron Urban League, NAACP, and Habitat for Humanity.
